The transformation of ancient canoes into modern kayaks is also due to the 19th century British wandering writer John McGregor. He imitated the Inuit canoe to make a small boat, and then drifted in the rivers and lakes of Europe. Soon someone imitated his small boat to build a boat, so he established a kayak club. In 1866, the first kayak competition was held.
